When Newton College and career Academy (NCCA) opened last August, Akilah George and Kyle Wright was among the first 240 students to sign up. The Model of innovative education, career Academy high school education with leveling the Community objective of economic development that better prepares students for the workforce of the 21st century.
The concept has been replicated in 26 Georgia community, thanks to the Georgia Career Academies project (GCAP), which provides important links between high schools, technical colleges or universities and local businesses.

Career Academy students attended half a day, taking courses in career path engineering, manufacturing, health, agriculture, business, computer science, and others. Many dual enrolled in Piedmont Georgia Tech (formerly DeKalb Tech), and will graduate with a high school diploma and college credit.
